“Granny Cams” Gain Approval in Missouri Senate Committee

For years the issue of “granny cams” has been tossed about by the Missouri legislature with every prior effort dying in committee. Times have changed. On May 6th a House bill allowing cameras in nursing home rooms was approved by a Senate Committee. It will next move to the Senate floor. No prior bill has progressed this far. This bill contains a compromise that balances privacy concerns with resident welfare as both the resident or the resident’s representative and the facility must approve the release of any footage to anyone except law enforcement. Sandberg Phoenix will be monitoring this and other industry-specific bills, as it proceeds through the legislative process.
