Counsel Carl Lothman joined the firm in 2013, as part of the joining of forces with Helfrey, Neiers and Jones. As a member of the Business Transactional Practice Group, Carl’s practice spans more than 35 years and focuses on helping business clients in the healthcare, construction, manufacturing and service industries, as well as assisting individuals in developing and implementing estate planning goals and strategies. For many clients, Carl functions as an “outside General Counsel,” providing insight and strategic support on an ongoing basis.
He is experienced in a wide variety of contractual matters, including employment, non-compete, service, licensing, purchases and sales, leasing, and many others. Carl works closely with clients to develop effective, cost sensitive, strategies in areas such as advanced estate planning ideas, post death trust administration and probate procedures, real estate solutions, business taxes, business and non-profit governance and compliance, employee benefits, and succession planning. Throughout his many years of practice, Carl has been able to work in many interesting areas of law.
Carl’s wealth of experience has taught him to resist jumping to conclusions, because every client’s circumstances and stage in life is different and requires a different approach to addressing their specific legal needs. By listening closely and establishing objectives, he is able to help strategize a comprehensive plan for his clients, leading to long-term success, rather than short term problem solving.
In his free time, Carl enjoys traveling with his wife to visit his grown children and to explore national parks. He can often be found working on projects around his St. Louis area home or in the garden. Carl also enjoys running to work off his passion for fine foods, as well as reading a good book.
