Sandberg Phoenix Attorneys Rodney Sharp and Jaime Bremerkamp obtained a defense verdict on behalf of SSM St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood in Rung vs. SSM in St. Louis County, Missouri, on August 31, 2012.
This case involved a 65-year old plaintiff who claimed that after undergoing a total knee replacement performed by a co-defendant physician, the hospital's nurses and physical therapists failed to inform the physician of signs and symptoms of vascular insuffiency in her leg. She argued that had there been earlier diagnosis of her condition before she developed compartment syndrome, she would not have been required to undergo additional surgical procedures which resulted in significant scarring, permanent foot drop, and other conditions.
After a five day trial, SSM, along with the co-defendant physician, received a unanimous defense verdict.
