Clayton Zak is a licensed patent attorney specializing in the acquisition of intellectual property (IP) and enforcement of IP rights. As an IP attorney, Clayton’s specialties include mechanical and electromechanical inventions and software implemented inventions. He has wide-ranging experience in preparing patent applications and shepherding them through the United States Patent and Trademark Office examination process. In doing so, Clayton takes a business focused approach to IP that maximizes value to clients of any size, ranging from individual inventors to fortune 100 companies. He also works with foreign firms to protect client’s IP in other countries - where and when it makes business sense to do so. Clayton assists clients in using IP as a tool to solve business problems.

Clayton also performs patentability and freedom-to-operate searches, infringement and validity studies and represents clients in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He also counsels clients in the enforcement of their hard earned IP rights and represents clients in enforcement proceedings ranging from Amazon takedown notices to lawsuits for patent, copyright, and trademark infringement.

Prior to his law practice, Clayton conducted research in the field of additive manufacturing. He applies a researcher’s mindset to clients’ inventions ensuring that clients obtain robust IP protection without missing valuable opportunities. Clayton has experience with a variety of technologies including electric motors, motor control software, heating ventilation and air conditioning equipment, medical devices, metamaterials and their applications, vehicles, lighting, digital payment networks, footwear, pet products, imaging equipment, communications systems, manufacturing equipment, semiconductors and their manufacturing, etc.
