Affordable Care Act - Enrollment Deadline for 2015

Just a quick reminder - the Affordable Care Act enrollment deadline for 2015 is approaching. Sunday, February 15 is the last day to enroll in a health insurance plan for 2015. If one misses this deadline, they may not be able to get coverage until 2016. And while one may not get sick in 2015, if they don't have health insurance, they'll miss out on preventive care services and may pay a hefty fine when they file their federal income tax return next year.

The penalty they'll pay if they do not have coverage is either a percentage of their household income or a flat fee -- whichever is higher. This fee increases each year.

Employers with 50 or more Full-time or Full-time equivalent employees are subject to shared responsibility payments beginning January 1, 2015. If these employers do not offer affordable health coverage that provides a minimum level of coverage to their full-time employees (and their dependents), the employer may be subject to an Employer Shared Responsibility payment if at least one of its full-time employees receives a premium tax credit for purchasing individual coverage on one of the new Affordable Insurance Exchanges, also called a Health Insurance Marketplace (Marketplace).
