On March 23, 2020, CMS issued a directive regarding the prioritization of surveys during the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic. Starting on March 23, 2020 with the President’s declaration of a national emergency, and the three weeks thereafter, only 1) Complaint/facility-reported incident surveys, 2) Targeted Infection Control Surveys and 3) Self-assessments, will take place. No Standard long-term care facility surveys will take place during this time frame. Additionally, an Infection Control survey developed by CMS and the CDC is provided starting at page 10 of the Memorandum (link below) so that the facilities can conduct voluntary self-assessments of their ability to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Additional information on this process is contained on pages 6 and 7 of the Memorandum.
