Counsel Doug Churovich is a highly skilled litigation and transactional intellectual property law attorney with extensive “real world” technical and managerial experience.
Doug dedicates his practice to providing high-quality legal services at reasonable cost. He listens carefully to his clients and works with them to identify their needs and to help them to maximize the value of their intellectual property. Doug excels at getting to the heart of the matter to help guide each client through an appropriately tailored legal strategy. These qualities enable Doug to satisfy his clients’ needs, and have contributed to his excellent reputation in the legal community.
Prior to studying law, Doug was a project manager and engineer at Boeing Corporation (previously McDonnell Douglas Corp.) for nearly ten years with responsibility for various solid state laser microchip production projects. Doug successfully managed multiple key deliveries, including two space-launch programs: one for the Mars Observer Laser Altimeter, and one for a “Star Wars” technology anti-missile system.
After receiving his law degree, Doug practiced a number of years as a general practitioner. In that capacity, he gained broad litigation and transactional experience in many areas of law, including product liability, arson, theft and vandalism, automobile and personal property damage, wrongful death, personal injury, libel and slander and contract disputes.
Doug has acquired well over a decade of experience in litigating and prosecuting intellectual property law matters. He regularly represents clients from across the country in all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair competition and Internet law, antitrust and related matters. These disputes often include ancillary issues, such as breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty.
Doug’s litigation experience is broad, ranging from small matters to extensive and complex infringement cases. For one client, Doug helped achieve a $15 million verdict that was one of the largest patent infringement awards in Missouri. In addition, Doug has been very successful in ending litigation early through summary judgment, defeating millions of dollars in adverse claims. Doug has also successfully prosecuted multiple opposition and cancellation proceedings at the U. S. Patent and Trademark Trial Office, and he has also won various administrative domain name disputes.
On the transactional side, Doug’s litigation and “real-world” work experience provide him with a unique vantage from which to assist his non-litigation clients. With regard to patents, Doug is licensed before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications in both the U.S. and in foreign countries. Doug has obtained patents for clients in a wide array of technologies, such as mechanical devices, electronic devices, ornamental designs and manufacturing and business methods. Similarly, Doug has prosecuted numerous U.S. and foreign trademark applications for a variety of clients’ marks and logos. In addition, Doug’s experience covers licensing, contracting, management and protection of intellectual property, business contracts, liens, guaranties, employment contracts, receiverships and real estate contracts.
