Biography
Chellie Butel joined Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard in 2005 and is a Shareholder in the Health Law Practice Group. Prior to joining Sandberg Phoenix, Chellie practiced for two and a half years with a defense firm in St. Louis where she concentrated her practice in the defense of healthcare providers.
Chellie has defended cases involving products liability, premises liability and nurses in administrative proceedings. She has successfully represented physicians, nurses and hospitals in all aspects of litigation including investigation, discovery, motion practice and assisting at trial.

Civic Activities
While in law school, Chellie was involved in the Saint Louis University Law Clinic representing indigent clients. She was nominated for the David Grant Clinic Student Attorney Award for her work in the clinic.
Chellie continues her nursing practice in the area of critical care on a part time basis. She is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Professional Activities
Chellie is admitted to practice law in Missouri and Illinois, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Missouri and Southern District of Illinois.
She is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the American Association of Nurse Attorneys.
Chellie also serves as a member of Sandberg Phoenix's Professional Development and Recruiting Committees.
Education
Chellie earned her Juris Doctor, with a Health Law Certificate in 2002 from Saint Louis University School of Law. She worked full time as a Registered Nurse while attending law school, in addition to being a Legal Research and Writing Teaching Assistant and a Student Bar association Class Representative.
Chellie earned a B.S. in Nursing,
cum laude, from Deaconess College of Nursing in 1995.
